Volunteering:

Narberth Ambulance is made up of nearly seventy members who volunteer their time and services to provide 9-1-1 emergency care to Lower Merion, Narberth, Conshohocken, West Conshohocken and Radnor Townships and Boroughs. Of those members, twenty are state certified Paramedics, and the remainder are state certified E.M.T.s or in the process of training. We have active members who have been volunteering their services for nearly twenty consecutive years! Our volunteer members represent many walks of life when they are not donating their time. We have police officers, teachers, medical examiners, college and high school students, mechanics and postal workers represented by volunteer membership. All volunteers must maintain their level of certification by completing extensive continuing education and volunteering a minimum number of hours each month.

We are always welcoming new applicants for volunteer membership. To apply, one must be at least sixteen years of age, willing to attend EMT school or already be certified as an EMT or Paramedic, and have a minimum of 24 hours a month consistently to commit to volunteering. Career Staff:

VMSC prides itself with a long history of volunteer and career staff working together. Crews are comprised of volunteers and career staff who are professional, well trained and responsive. All EMT's and paramedics are certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Paramedics and EMTs at VMSC are trained to meet the needs of patients with heart attacks, strokes and seizures. They respond daily to the nursing homes, elementary schools, restaurants and stores, as well as the Schuylkill expressway. They have the skills to help patients who are not breathing, who are bleeding or have a broken limb. The combined years of experience of the career and volunteer staff make them ready to respond to any emergency, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Every month, VMSC hosts a training event. In 2001, over 75 hours of continuing education were offered. Some classes are open to all care providers, while others are specifically targeted towards Basic Life Support (EMT's) or Advanced Life Support (Paramedics). For more information, read the "Training" section.
